French IB 11

Sydney Academy

Heather Urquhart

September - January 2017/18

_________________________________________________________________

IB French 11 is designed to facilitate the acquisition of strong French communication skills in the areas of speaking, reading, writing, and listening.  Materials and activities will include literature, magazines, newspapers, textbook, videos, internet readings and music.  A strong emphasis will be placed on developing oral and written communication, as well as comprehension skills.  This course is the first year of the IB French diploma course.  Students will continue to study IB French in IB French 12.

Students are expected to complete assigned readings and homework in preparation for class every day.  Homework will be posted in class daily and on the Google Classroom for this course.  In French classes, attendance is important, as the classroom is primarily where students will practice speaking French.  If a student is absent from class, a parent/guardian may phone the school to have it recorded as excused.

If on the day that an assignment is due, a student is unable to be in class (for reasons such as illness), they may send me the assignment electronically.  I will accept a late assignment up to seven days after the due date, although points will be deducted for every day it is late.

The term mark for this class is calculated using 70% of the semester’s class work (tests, assignments, projects, communication, daily tasks, etc.) and 30% from end of semester evaluations.

Extra help will be available upon request any day at lunch.

If you have any concerns, please phone the school at 562-5464.
