Biology 12

     Prerequisite:  BIO 11

Topics in Biology 12 include:

  1. Chemistry of Living Things

  2. Cellular Respiration

  3. Photosynthesis

  4. Genetics

  5. Human Systems (Muscular, Skeletal, Reproductive, Nervous, Endocrine)

  6. Evolution

It is important to note that as a school policy, there will be no make-up tests or assignments due to unexcused absences.  Students who miss assessment practices due to an unexcused absence will be given a mark of zero.  If an absence is excused, it is the discretion of the teacher to prorate based on an adequate number of previous assessments.  Please note if there are no previous assessments, prorate will not be an option in the case of excused absences.

Communication

  2. I will create a Google Classroom, which is a virtual classroom where assignments and test reviews will be posted that students can access from home.  

  3. Also, parents or guardians can use the Parent Portal to access their child’s progress and attendance online.

Students and Parent/Guardians should note that a progress report will be sent home on Tuesday, November 14.  Parent Teacher sessions for this semester are scheduled for Thursday, November 16 and Friday, November 17.

                                 Teacher:  Ms. H. Pierre                                                              Course:  Biology IB 12

                                                                                  Prerequisite:  BIO IB 11

Course Description:

Biology 12 IB is an advanced course that has been specifically designed to follow the International Baccalaureate Program syllabus.  Completion of both Biology 11 IB and Biology 12 IB prepares the student to write the IB Biology exam, in May of the senior year.  The course is more investigative in nature and provides for greater depth of treatment.  Core topics include:  Ecology, Evolution and Biodiversity, Plant Biology, Genetics, and all remaining human physiology topics from grade 11 (Neurons and synapses, hormones and homeostasis, antibody production, movement, the kidney and osmoregulation and sexual reproduction).  The entire class will determine the optional topic offered.

 

The lab component of the course includes eight practical labs, demonstration labs and one individual lab which must be externally assessed.  Lab days will be on the double day and are essential to complete for the hours required by the International Baccalaureate Program.

Course Description:

Spanish ab initio is a demanding subject that requires intense study and focus.  The overall objective of this course is for students to achieve communicative competence in a variety of everyday situations.  At the end of the IB Spanish ab initio course in grade 12, candidates will be expected to demonstrate ability to:

  • Communicate information and some basic ideas clearly and effectively, in a limited range of situations.
  • Understand and use accurately the essential spoken and written forms of the language in a limited range of situations.
  • Understand and use a limited range of vocabulary in common usage.
  • Use a register that is generally appropriate to the situation
  • Show an awareness of some elements of the culture(s) related to the language studied.

This course will satisfy the second language requirement for IB Diploma candidates and may also be taken as an IB Certificate course.

 

Students absent from class, for any reason are still held responsible for the work missed during that time.  Regular, on time attendance is not only encouraged but is essential to student’s success.  Based on the attendance policy, phone calls will be made home in the appropriate cases.
