Grade Nine Social Studies – Communication Plan 2016-2017

During the course of study, we will explore topics from the following five areas:

1.Physical Setting
2.Culture
3.Economics
4.Interdependence
5. Technology

The majority of our focus will center around Atlantic Canada, although we will take opportunities to look outside of our region at issues affecting us both nationally and internationally.

Assignments/Projects/Homework/Contact Information

Students will be required to complete assignments and projects on a regular basis in class and at home. Students will be evaluated through continuous assessment. It is expected that students will attend school regularly, put their best effort forth and pass in all work on or before the due dates given. Failure to do so will result in deductions in the mark. It is, therefore, important to stay aware of all work assigned, as well as the due dates. Students will have access to the google classroom in lieu of work packages, please see Mrs. MacLeod for more information.  Please see the homework site on the Sydney Academy homepage to keep up to date on current assignments.

The final mark for this course will be broken down as follows:

Exams (15% first exam and 15% final) 30%
Tests and quizzes 30%
Class assignments and projects 30%
Homework assignments 10%

Students and their families may communicate with the teacher at any time by calling the school, during meetings or via email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Drama 10: Communication Plan
2017-2018

Drama 10 is an introductory course in drama focusing on the personal, intellectual and social growth of the student. Through extensive work in improvisation, both in small and large groups, students gain confidence as they explore and communicate ideas, experiences and feelings in a range of dramatic forms such as movement, mime and dramatization.

The final Drama grade will be calculated as following:
30% Final Exam Performance and
70% to be made up of:

20% In Class Assignments
20% Performances
10% Writing Assignments
20% Midterm Performance

In an effort to ensure that our assessment policy reflects the ongoing performance of the student over an entire course and also to promote full attendance in classes the following assessment policy is proposed: The evaluation scheme listed above will cover 70% of the student's final grade. The other 30% will come from an exam at the end of the year.

Monthly interviews with the teacher will allow the student to be kept updated on
his or her progress as well as allow frequent opportunities to have input on his/her mark.

There would be no make-up assignments required for missed components of the assessment due to an excused absence. Instead the value of other assessment pieces would be pro-rated to determine the assessment mark. Students who miss assessment pieces due to an unexcused absence will be given a mark of zero (All excused absences must be reported with-in five days of the absence to be excused).

Students and their families may contact the teacher at anytime through the school phone number or via email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
