Career Development 10 (Graduation)

Career Development 10 consists of the following modules:

These modules are selected to help students plan and prepare for learning experiences.

Child Studies 11 (Open)

Child Studies is a course designed to help students explore the meaning and implications of responsible parenthood, acquire current information regarding reproduction, pregnancy and childbirth, explore significant issues of early childhood and apply the understanding of child development to the care and guidance of children.

Community Based Learning 10 (Open)

This course is offered for students who are not ready for community placement for age or other reasons. This course will expand opportunities for students to learn in the workplace and community. It provides credit for service learning, volunteering and other community based activities which focus on leadership, mentoring, employability, skill development and personal growth.

CO-OPERATIVE EDUCATION 10, 11, 12 - CO-OP ED 10, 11, 12 (Academic)

Co-op Education is offered at the Grade 10, 11, and 12 levels. The idea is that students attend classes to prepare for a community placement component. Upon successful completion of both the 25 hour in - school component and the 100 hour minimum out - of - school component of the program students are awarded one full high school credit. Students must be 16 years of age before completing any placement hours. Included in the 25 hour in - school component is First Aid and C.P.R. Training, WHMIS Training and Safety Training. The teacher, employer and student work together to design appropriate tasks and learning experiences in order to provide students with meaningful career exploration.

HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES 12 (Open)
Students will gain skills and knowledge in human development, ethics, helping process, interpersonal and personal development, wellness, written and verbal communications, and computer applications. Students will explore skills and knowledge specific to defined occupations in the health care system. A requirement of the course is that each student complete 10 hours of volunteer work outside of class time.
LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT 12 - LEAD DEV 12 (Open)
The emphasis of this course is on the identification, development and practice of effective leadership skills. It is an active experimental class that aims to empower students in the areas of team building, decision making, communication and creative thinking. Students will have the opportunity to assess needs within the school and the community and determine which need(s) may be addressed by an individual, group or the entire class.
