School History
Sydney Academy Library was dedicated on January 26th 1989 to the memory of G.G. Campbell B.A. LL.D.
Dr. Campbell was the principal of Sydney Academy for a longer period of time than anyone else, to date. He was the administrator here from 1935 - 1968. It is safe to say that under his leadership, Sydney Academy became one of the most outstanding high schools in the Atlantic region.
It was during the Campbell era that the present-day Sydney Academy was built on Terrace Street. The most recent building is the sixth building since 1841. This school was officially opened on September 8th, 1959 and another wing was added just before Campbell retired in 1968.
It has been estimated that since Sydney Academy began over 150 years ago, that at least 25,000 students have graduated.
